Zweifelsohne zählt der 1969 nach Chicago ausgewanderte Belgier Pierre Lacocque zu den herausragenden, innovativen Mundharmonicaspielern des Blues. Er spielt flüssig, sauber, schnell mit sattem, tiefem Ton, einer gehörigen Portion Gefühl und einer großen stilistischen Bandbreite, die von seinen Vorbildern Walter Horton und Junior Wells eine Brücke zu karibischen Harmonien und Grooves schlägt. Seine Band war selten konstant. Feste Mitglieder sind Sängerin Inetta Visor und Drummer Kenny Smith. 'Hattiesburg Blues' liefert einige mit ihren Bridges und Harmonien herausstechende Blues; dann aber auch wieder durchschnittliche Chicago-Kost. Das schiebe ich jedoch eher auf den etwas langweiligen, schlappen Mix und uninspiriertes Mastering. Gute Performance mit illustren Gästen; so ist Carl Weathersby schon zum vierten Mal dabei. Für Harmonicafans ein dicker Tipp. Sehr gut - mit einigen Abstrichen für die Aufnahme.

Their first studio album on Delmark. Without any doubt, band leader Pierre Lacocque must be regarded one of today's most innovative, creative and prominent harmonica players of his generation. Born in Belgium, he moved to Chicago in 1969 - and stayed. He plays and blows with a signature tone. Fast, fluid, clean with a deep, fat tone. His playing's soulful, sweet and demonstrating the art of building bridges in blues. So he's incorporating Caribibean harmonies and grooves, and it works well. His band's line-up has been changing a lot. Vocalist Inetta and drummer Kenny have been with him since the beginning of the millennium, though. 'Hattiesburg Blues' delivers a couple of outstanding tunes, with nice bridges and harmonies. But it also contains rather average Chicago style blues, due to a pretty boring and flabby mix and unsinspired mastering. Great performance, fine list of supporters. Carl Weathersby joined the band for the forth time. A nice set of blues for harmonica lovers.
