Diamonds In The Rough
A beautiful album, a release with almost no commercial potential. Records like this one aren't made every day. Blues expert and author Scott Dirks went to black neighborhood clubs in Chicago's southside and westside searching for harmonica players. Once Chicago was best-known for being home to most of the greatest harmonica players. Today, you won't hear too much harp in the tourist clubs downtown and on the north side. But Dirks found a couple of players, both young and old. Where the elder generation players are keeping that traditional style alive, young generation bluesmen are influenced by harp wizzards like Sugar Blue or Billy Branch. An exciting release, not only for harp fanatics but also for lovers of Chicago style blues. Furthermore, this is a great documentation on Chicago's off-mainstream blues scene. Highly recommended. RICK KREHER - gtr, LITTLE FRANK - gtr, MARK BRUMBACH - pno, PAT McKEEVER - bass, TWIST TURNER - drums.
