We are not going to pretend that Billy ‘Lee’ Riley’s recordings for SunRecords in the
period 1956-59 were other than his very best work and they have long been available on
Bear Family (BCD 15444), as well as on a new box set containing the outtakes from this
important period inRiley’s career.This collection, however, comprises a fascinating look at
someof his later recordings and covers theperiod1960-78duringwhichhe first adapted to
the changing trends within popular music and then later returned to the vintage rock ‘n’
roll sounds of the fifties in response to his newly discovered audience inEurope.
