Porretta Sweet Soul Music Award.
Last weekend, Porretta Terme, a small Italian city in the Emilia Romagna region between Bologna and Florence, was home to soul enthusiasts from all over Europe. It was the 23rd edition of the world-famous 'Porretta Soul Festival'. During a break on the main stage, the artistic director of the festival, Mr. Graziano Uliano and his press director, Mr. Ernesto de Pascale, presented the honorary award to Bear Family Records and Canadian radio deejay and researcher, Dave 'Daddy Cool' Booth for the production and release of 'Sweet Soul Music'. This 10-CD series is regarded the best-ever soul documentation, covering the years 1961 to 1970. Dave Booth is hosting his radio show since the early 1960s. He loves vintage rhythm'n'blues, soul and original blues.
The 'Porretta Soul Festival', perfectly advertised as 'Sweet Soul Music', a wonderful family event, has an excellent reputation amongst soul fans from all over Europe, and amongst the performing musicians. Rufus Thomas was a regular here, as still is Solomon Burke.
