(2003 'Blind Pig') (69:35/13) Neue (teilweise) Band, neues Label und neues Konzept: das letzte Jahr brachte eine Menge Veränderungen für die Mighty Flyers. Nach sieben Jahren bei Tone-Cool nun bei Blind Pig mit einer eher traditionellen Herangehensweise an das Genre - was Piazza und der Band offensichtlich ausgezeichnet gefällt. Rod ist in schierer Spiellaune, läßt sich eine Menge kleiner Verrücktheiten einfallen. Und obwohl (oder weil) vieles des Materials wenig überrascht (vom Titel her), sind die Arrangement durchweg originell und überraschend. Der neue Gitarrist bringt einen Schub Dreck, oder wie Rod sagt 'Ghetto-Stil' mit seiner bissigen Stratocaster ins Spiel. Der Typ ist stark und belegt mal wieder, was für ein goldenes Händchen Piazza in bezug auf Gitarristen hat! Ich muss sagen, mir hat ein Mighty Flyers selten so viel Spaß gemacht. Es strotz vor Spiellaune und birgt jede Menge Gitarren- und Harmonicasolos. Für Harmonica- und Fans von traditionellem Blues mit geschmackvollen Arrangements bedenkenlos zu empfehlen!!

new band (partly), new label and concept. The year 2003 brought many changes for the Mighty Flyers. After seven years with Tone-Cool, they are now on Blind Pig. Their sound has changed to the traditional - and Piazza and the band seem to enjoy this turn. Rod's playing is pure lust. He plays powerful and performs a bunch of little tricks. And although (or: because ) the material doesn't hide any big surprises, the arrangements are very original and truly surprising. The new guitar player with his sharp Stratocaster sound ads some extra grit to the music, or as Rod says, some 'Ghetto style'. This guy is a mighty player. Once again Rod has shown his talent for discovering guitar talent. I must admit that almost never before I have had so much fun listening to a Mighty Flyers album. This is pure fun with extended guitar and harmonica solos, and interplay. For fans of harmonica blues, and all fans of well-recorded and well-performed traditional style blues: highly recommended!!
