Country music superstar Webb Pierce really had nothing to worry about with the onslaught
of that thing called rock ‘n’ roll. He’d already had a slew of high-charting hits, including
a bunch of number-ones
(Wondering
-1952;
There Stands The Glass
-1953;
Slowly
-1954;
In The Jailhouse Now
-1955 to name just a few) and he would go on to have many more
big records. Still, there must have been some uneasiness in the WP camp as Elvis and his
cohorts raced up the charts with hit after hit.
So, in mid 1956, possibly feeling the need to really connect with the kids, Webb dusted
off one of his older tunes,
Hayride Boogie,
originally recorded in early 1951, in Shreveport,
