This album is something of a departure from our
previous Country-style albums. This collection has been
prepared to transport you back to the smoke filled Honky Tonks of yesteryear in the US
of A. We have delved de-e-ep into the vaults of RCA-Victor in order to blow the dust
off some of the best forgotten Hillbilly Bop yo’all ever gonna hear. So, dim the lights,
turn up the phonograph and picture yourself there.
By the mid fifties, the ballroom kings were a spent force in terms of record sales;
they could still draw the crowds but their days were numbered. The popular western
swing style of the late forties had gradually given way to a new, exciting, ‘no frills‘
brand of country music, the so-called Honky-Tonk style. The purveyors of this genre
drew their inspirations from the likes of Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell. Roadhouses,
taverns and honky tonks the length and breadth of the nation echoed to their toe-tapping
rhythms and plaintive tear-jerking ballads - the hillbilly hound dogs and honky tonk
angels had arrived.
