Die Geschichte dieser Sardana (katalanischer
Reigentanz) ist wie folgt überliefert:
"An einem war-
men Sommerabend wehten mit dem Wind die Klänge
einer Sardana über die Mauern eines Klosters. Sie
kamen aus dem nahe gelegenen Dorf, wo man ein
Fest feierte. Die Nonnen hörten aufmerksam zu und began-
nen alsbald nach der Musik zu tanzen, behutsam zunächst,
dann immer ausgelassener. Die Äbtissin beobachtete das,
schaute eine kurze Zeit zu und ging dann ins Gebäude zu-
rück, als habe sie nichts gesehen."
In den Jahren vor Aus-
rufung der Republik war das Spielen und Singen dieser
Sardana de les Monges
verboten, was ihre Popularität ab
1931 und dann speziell in den Jahren des Bürgerkriegs ab
1936 nur noch steigerte. – Zur vorliegenden Schellack-Ein-

The story of this sardana (Catalan round dance) has
been passed on as follows:
"On a warm summer evening,
the sound of a sardana was blown over by the wind across
the walls of a monastery. It came from a nearby village where
there was a festival. The nuns listened attentively and soon
they began to dance to the music, very cautiously at first, but
then more and more exuberantly. The abbess watched this
for a while and then went back into the building, pretending
she had not seen anything."
In the years before the procla-
mation of the Republic the playing and singing of this
Sar-
dana de les Monges
was illegal, which increased its
popularity even more from 1931, and especially in the
years of the Civil War from 1936. – For this shellac record-

La historia de esta sardana (danza nacional catalana) se ha
contado, a través de las generaciones, de la manera siguiente:
"En
una tarde calurosa de verano, el viento hace llegar los sonidos de una
sardana por encima de los muros de un claustro. La sardana se está to-
cando en la fiesta del pueblo; las monjas escuchan atentas y pronto
empiezan a bailar la música, primero con recato, luego con más y más
desenvoltura. La Madre Superiora las observa durante un rato, luego
vuelve al edificio, haciendo como si no hubiera visto nada."
Este tema
fue prohibido durante las dictaduras de Rivera y Berenguer, lo
cual lo hizo aún más popular después de proclamarse la Segunda
República y especialmente durante la Guerra Civil. – Grabación
