Jimmy Farmer

The release of JIMMY FARMER's Long Black Train, recorded at Texas Sound Studios in San Antonio in the summer of 1962, signaled the end of Sarg's fling with teenage music. Farmer, an Elvis devotee from Lockhart, had previously led a high school group there called the Parques. He approached Charlie at the suggestion of his uncle, an engineer at powerful KTSA in San Antonio who was familiar with Sarg. Cecil Moore's band, the Notes, were recruited to provide the music, but Long Black Train was released to mostly deaf ears in August, 1962. Farmer made a few live appearances with the Notes for a short period of time while the record was current, but when the record disappeared Farmer followed suit and exited stage left for good.
