Martin Hawkins

Martin Hawkins has produced over thirty CDs and ten boxed sets for Bear Family during the past 35 years. These include the trilogy of Sun blues, country, and rock boxes, the Nashville Jumps and Tennessee Jive boxes, and the recent award-winning boxes of Slim Harpo and the Louisiana Hayride. Dating back to 1971 he has written over 400 magazine articles and liner notes for other organisations.

He is the author of the books ‘A Shot in the Dark – Making Records in Nashville 1945-1955’, ‘Slim Harpo: Blues King Bee of Baton Rouge’, and co-author of ‘Good Rockin’ Tonight: Sun Records and the Birth of Rock ’n’ Roll’. He has just completed work on a boxed set of blues from Memphis down the years. He is a historian by nature, and focuses on the people who recorded and released regional and roots music in the days before and during the emergence of rock ‘n’ roll. He lives in Lenham, Kent, England.
