Richard Moreland
Let Me In was Richard Moreland's second release on Dart, but the first under that name, the first having been issued early in Dart's life under his real name, Richard Westmoreland. Although Let Me In is slightly pop-tinged, it's still fairly characteristic of the rock 'n' roll that came out the Houston are in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the pumping two sax leads being fairly common on recordings emanating from Bill Quinn's Gold Star studio, where many 'D' and Dart sessions were held -- Quinn regular, all-around man Link Davis, who began his career as a western swing fiddler and enjoyed some success as a Cajun fiddler and a rock and roll singer-saxist, is surely one of the saxes heard here.
Little else is known to me about Moreland at this writing. He was living in Houston at the time of this recording -- one of the latest Dart releases, dating from the latter part of 1961 -- and then had several other releases on local labels before fading from the scene. He was last heard of in Humble, near Houston, and was at least until recently an active ASCAP writer.
