Peter Alexander & Bill Ramsey

In 1960, German record producers Kurt Feltz and Heinz Gietz paired two of Germany's most popular entertainers, Peter Alexander (born 1926) and Bill Ramsey (born 1931) for a duet on the Polydor label. The song, Missouri Cowboy, is actually a version of Jimmie Rodgers' Blue Yodel No. 8 (Muleskinner Blues). Born in Austria, Alexander became a music fan through his grandfather's music store. Although he was initially attracted to opera and pop, he eventually gravitated toward country music, and became a fan of Jimmie Rodgers. He began his recording career in Vienna in 1951 and had a long and successful career in films and on television in Germany until his retirement in the 1990s. Ramsey was born in Cincinnati, Ohio but made his first trip to Germany with the United States Air Force in 1952. While working for Armed Forces Radio as a disc jockey, he met Heinz Gietz, returning to Germany after he got out of the service. His first record was a German language version of Sheb Wooley's Purple People Eater. After that he had hit after hit, and played in many movies. Ramsey has become a household name in Germany, and is still active today singing mostly jazz and swing.
