Diese Zusammenstellung läutet eine neue Phase des 13th Floor Elevators-Katalogs ein und ist ein Vorgeschmack auf die kommende The Quest For Pure Sanity-Serie: die Veröffentlichung des gesamten erhaltenen Quellmaterials aller Aufnahmen der Band in optimaler Qualität. "13 Of The Best Of The 13th Floor Elevators" wurde separat für Vinyl, CD, Digital und Streaming gemastert, um die bestmögliche Klangqualität für jedes Format zu gewährleisten.

"13 Of The Best" wurde vom offiziellen Archivar und Historiker der 13th Floor Elevators, Paul Drummond, produziert, der auch die Cover-Notizen mit vollständigen Track-by-Track-Informationen verfasste. Der Autor von "Eye Mind" (2007), der umfassenden und endgültigen Biografie der 13th Floor Elevators, und "13th Floor Elevators: A Visual History" (2020) hat Drummond sein ganzes Leben damit verbracht, jeden Aspekt der Geschichte der Elevators zu dokumentieren, und hat in Zusammenarbeit mit den Bandmitgliedern ein beispielloses Archiv an Originalmaterial und Erinnerungsstücken zusammengetragen.

The 13th Floor Elevators are a legend and one that will continue to grow as the years go by. They were ahead of their time in many ways and also a product of them. Wether or not they were the first "psychedelic" band is not that important; what is important is their music. The recordings that are left are good but not the band as it was live, especially in their first year. The ridiculous "live" LP that International Artists put out is overshadowed by the live tapes that do exist. Drugs, an incredibly malevolent record company and the usual inter-band conflicts brought an early end to the Elevators. To think of a band like that in 1960s Texas is amazing. But they were definitely a part of it; acidized country boys playing psychedelic Buddy Holly riffs, a mixture that couldn't have happened anywhere else.
