Wie könnte die kanadische Heavy-Metal-Band 3 Inches of Blood die Intensität nach ihrem 2004er Meisterwerk "Advance and Vanquish" noch steigern? Nun, indem sie Slipknot-Schlagzeuger Jordy Jordison für die Produktion ihres nächsten Albums verpflichteten und eine neue Instrumentalbesetzung mit dem ehemaligen Allfather-Leadgitarristen Justin Hagberg und dem ehemaligen Walls of Jericho-Schlagzeuger Alexei Rodriguez zum einzigartigen Doppelgesang von Cam Pipes am "Clean"-Gesang und Jamie Hooper am "Scream"-Gesang der Band hinzufügten. Das Ergebnis war das 2007 erschienene "Fire Up the Blades", das, wie Hooper es ausdrückte, "eine schnellere, intensivere Version von uns" war. Das heißt, es gibt keine schnelleren, intensiveren Alben als dieses; dass die epischen Texte gut genug sind, um aus der Feder von George R. R. Martin aus "Game of Thrones" zu stammen, ist nur ein Bonus. Wo wir gerade von Boni sprechen: Für das Vinyl-Debüt von "Fire Up the Blades" (und nach Rücksprache mit der Band) haben wir den Einsatz mit einer 2-LP-Veröffentlichung erhöht, die eine ganze Seite zusätzlicher Tracks enthält, die genau zu der Zeit veröffentlicht wurden, als das Album herauskam, einschließlich ihrer Coverversion des Lucifer's Friend-Songs "In the Time of Job When Mammon Was a Yippie".
