Here 33 Festive tunes you probably won't have many of. It's that time of year again, Bear Family have been rummaging where others haven't when it comes to compiling festive compilations.
Unless you have an extensive collection of rarities it's unlikely many of these have featured in your previous playlists, in some cases that's a tragedy, Three Aces And A Joker's uber rare 'Sleigh Bell Rock' disproves any theory that Christmas songs have to be cheesy, this cracker rocks but only 600 people got a copy back in 1960.
Rarity is the feature of the album, it's impossible to list the merits of all the tracks in a short review, yes there are some jingle belled contrived numbers, well it's Christmas after all.
There's some ear-popping good stuff too the earliest from 1950, jazz but so near rock n roll, add some quirky, do-wop and rockabilly bopping and you have a tremendous compilation The booklet is packed with artist information too as you'd expect coming from this label, ideal if you're an anorak like me

Bear Family • bear-famlly.de • Schokoweihnachtsmänner und Spekulatius stehen bereits seit dem Ende der Sommerferien in den Auslagen der Discounter, und auch die jährliche Rock'n'Roll-Compilation der norddeutschen Bärenfamilie erreichte uns ziemlich früh. Wie nicht anders zu erwarten, wird hier eine Raritätenparade einge-leitet, der Akzent liegt dabei eindeutig auf „cool'. Schon zu Beginn der Fifties brachen die damali-gen Hipster aus den festgefahrenen Familientra-ditionen aus und versuchten, das Fest der Liebe zu einer stets rockenden Orgie der guten Laune umzudeuten, mit der wohl bei jedem amerika-nischen Teenager der Haussegen schief hängen würde. Ganz im Sinne der Bear Family-Tradi-tion sind hier in erster Linie rare Aufnahmen von kleineren Lichtern kombiniert mit eher vergesse-nen Nummern von Topsellern.

They are not inexpensive and often overlooked. But in recent years they have released some single-CD albums at very affordable prices and yet don’t skimp on the sound quality or the thoroughness of the liner notes.
A year or more abo they started compiling (mostly) seasonally-themed albums. I think the first I remember getting was the summer-related “Banana Splits” volume (which spawned a “Volume 2” this past summer. For Easter they did “Bunny Hop” and Halloween brought “The Shadow Knows”. For Halloween and Thanksgiving it was called “Autumn Leaves” (see my reviews on Amazon. Now it’s Christmas time and they just released this CD: “Yulesville”
