Graham Bond wurde Anfang der sechziger Jahre zu einer der "hellsten Hoffnungen" des britischen Jazz gewählt, als er noch seine Tage in einem Verkaufsbüro verbrachte, und seine Abende als Eric Dolphy-inspirierter Altsaxophonist mit der Don Rendell Jazz Gruppe. Bond verließ Rendells Gruppe, um sich im November 1962 anstelle von Cyril Davies der Blues Incorporated anzuschließen. Obwohl er als Altsaxophonist eingestellt wurde, interessierte er sich zunehmend für elektrische Orgeln und gab im Februar 1963 auf, mit Jack Bruce und Ginger Baker ein eigenes Trio zu bilden, das durch den Gitarristen John McLaughlin erweitert wurde (sechs Monate später durch den Saxophonisten Dick Heckstall-Smith ersetzt).

Die Graham Bond Or-Ganization überlebte den Abgang von Bruce und Baker (ersetzt durch Drums von Jon Hiseman), aber ihr jazziger, aggressiver Blues fand nie großen Erfolg, und Bond zog nach der endgültigen Trennung der Gruppe nach Amerika. Nach seiner Rückkehr achtzehn Monate später wurde er in eine lange Reihe von abortiven Gruppen involviert, darunter Ginger Baker's Airforce, sein eigener Magick und eine Band mit dem Dichter und Lyriker Pete Brown, die 1974 mit seinem Tod endete.
