Mit „The Way I'm Livin'“ meldete sich Lee Ann Womack 2014 nach mehreren Jahren zurück – und präsentierte dabei ein Album, das deutlich auf authentische Country-, Americana- und Roots-Musik setzt. Erschienen auf dem renommierten Label Sugar Hill Records, zeigt die Sängerin hier eine besonders ausdrucksstarke und erdige Seite ihres musikalischen Schaffens.

Produziert wurde das Album von Frank Liddell, Glenn Worf und Chuck Ainlay. Statt auf glattpolierten Country-Pop setzt die Produktion auf intime Atmosphäre, starke Songs und Womacks charakteristische Stimme. Das Ergebnis verbindet traditionellen Country mit Americana, Southern-Soul-Einflüssen und moderner Roots-Musik.

Besonders reizvoll ist die Auswahl des Songmaterials: Neben Songs von Hayes Carll, Bruce Robison, Julie Miller und Mindy Smith findet sich mit „Out on the Weekend“ auch eine Interpretation eines Neil-Young-Klassikers. „Tomorrow Night in Baltimore“ stammt aus der Feder von Kenny Price und wurde zuvor von Roger Miller aufgenommen.

Mit insgesamt 13 Titeln bietet The Way I'm Livin' eine abwechslungsreiche Mischung aus nachdenklichen Balladen, traditionellen Country-Elementen und erdiger Americana. Für Vinyl-Liebhaber und Freunde authentischer amerikanischer Roots-Musik ist dieses Album eine besonders interessante Veröffentlichung aus Lee Ann Womacks späterer Karriere.

Lee Ann Womack had country music in her veins from the start. Her father was a country radio DJ and Lee Ann would often join him in the studio to help choose songs for him to play.

She went on to study music business at Belmont University, Nashville. Here, in the home of country music, Lee Ann began to write songs and perform locally. She was spotted by Tree Publishing and worked for them co writing hits for other country singers.

But just a year later Lee Ann signed her own recording deal and in 1997 became one of the breakout contemporary country artists with her eponymous debut album. Over the next 7 years Lee Ann released 5 more critically acclaimed albums. (Alan Cackett)
