Das posthume Werk von Blaze Foley geht weiter. Cold, Cold World versammelt die frühesten Aufnahmen des aus Austin stammenden Musikers, die inzwischen zum Mythos geworden sind: Houston 1979, Fredericksburg 1980. Die Beaver Valley Boys (Foley wollte angeblich eine reine Frauenband) wurden von dem jungen Gurf Morlix an der Gitarre angeführt und von Riley Osbourn am Klavier begleitet. Wie bei jedem von Foleys Alben sind die Songs die Attraktion, auch wenn sie ein wenig zaghaft sind - was bei der ersten Studioerfahrung eines jeden zu erwarten ist. Die verblüffend effektiven Bearbeitungen bekannter Stücke wie das melancholische "Picture Cards" und das düstere "Rainbows and Ridges" sind vielleicht schon Grund genug für CCW. Sein manischer Sinn für Humor klingt laut und deutlich in dem zu sehr auf Country getrimmten "New Wave Blues" und dem süßlich geshuffelten "No Goodwill Stores in Waikiki". Von den 17 Songs haben sechs hier ihren ersten Auftritt. Es ist nichts für Anfänger, aber Cold, Cold World bietet einen weiteren faszinierenden Einblick in Blaze Foleys Songwriter-Genie.
