Der 50. Jahrestag von Elvis Presleys transformativer Las Vegas Residenz im International Hotel wird diesen Sommer mit Live 1969 gefeiert, einer luxuriösen 11-CD-Box, die am 9. August auf RCA/Legacy Recordings, einer Abteilung von Sony Music Entertainment, veröffentlicht wird.
Als er zum ersten Mal seit acht Jahren wieder auf die Bühne zurückkehrte, zeigte Elvis' 1969er Vegas-Lauf 57 ausverkaufte Shows und das Live-Debüt seines charakteristischen #1-Hits "Suspicious Minds" (der Track feiert am 26. August sein 50-jähriges Jubiläum). Zu den transzendenten Auftritten gehörten The King of Rock and Roll, unterstützt von zwei Gesangsgruppen (The Imperials und The Sweet Inspirations), einem kompletten Orchester und einer Band, die später als TCB-Band bekannt wurde.
Live 1969 ist die endgültige Sammlung des Königs auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Macht. Zum ersten Mal überhaupt bietet es die Veröffentlichung von elf kompletten Sets aus Elvis' Engagement im August 1969 im Las Vegas' International Hotel. Von diesen Auftritten werden vier zum ersten Mal überhaupt vollständig veröffentlicht - darunter zwei Elvis-Shows, die seit fünfzig Jahren (22. und 25. August) fast völlig ungehört geblieben sind.
Das Paket enthält auch ein 52-seitiges Heft mit seltenen Fotos, Erinnerungsstücken und einer mündlichen Geschichte von Ken Sharp, kuratiert aus historischen Interviews mit Elvis, Colonel Tom Parker, Tom Jones, Jerry Schilling, James Burton, Cissy Houston, Terry Blackwood, George Klein, Fats Domino und anderen.
