Gerade in einer Zeit, in der publizistisch '50 Jahre Popmusik' so abgehandelt werden als habe es vorher keine gegeben, ist es wichtig zu zeigen, dass diese 1955 nicht vom Himmel fiel sondern eine reichhaltige, kontinuierlich evolutionäre 'Vor'geschichte hat, für die Schlagworte wie Big Band Sound, Gospel, Jump Blues, Vocal Groups und Boogie Woogie stehen. So bieten die ersten elf Compact Discs der Serie
'Blowing The Fuse' eine in Sound und Edition glänzende Kompilation wichtiger Jahre der Popmusik-Entwicklung im Bereich des schwarzen R&B, einfallsreich zusammengestellt von dem kanadischen Sammler, Fotografen und DJ Dave 'Daddy Cool' Booth, und kenntnisreich kommentiert von dem Hank Williams-Biografen Colin Escott.

Neuer Standard Im Bereich R&B-Wiederveröffentlichungen!
Bear Familys Serie 'Blowing The Fuse' wird einen neuen Standard für R&B-Wiederveröffentlichungen setzen. Hier sind die Gründe:
DER ZEITRAUM. Diverse Plattenfirmen haben Zusammenstellungen mit Material herausgebracht, das außerhalb des Copyright-Schutzes liegt (Aufnahmen, die schon älter sind als 50 Jahre). Darum enden jene Serien mit dem Jahr 1955. Bear Familys 'Blowing The Fuse'-Reihe dagegen beginnt 1945 und wird fortgesetzt werden bis 1960! Diesen Endpunkt werden die anderen Firmen mit ihrer Politik erst 2011 erreichen. Wir aber werden 2006 unser Ziel erreicht haben, da wir die Rechtsinhaber korrekt bezahlen.

DIE VERPACKUNG. Andere Firmen kupfern Fotos aus alten Büchern und Magazinen ab und besorgen sich hingehuschte Booklet-Texte, die kaum etwas oder gar nichts aussagen – und das oftmals auch noch falsch. Bear Familys 'Blowing The Fuse'-Serie enthält statt dessen Kommentare zu jedem einzelnen Song, Hintergrund-Geschichten zu den Liedern sowie hervorragende, nie zuvor gezeigte Fotos in opulenten Booklets – Begleithefte, die so prall sind, daß sie nicht in die herkömmlichen Standard-Jewelboxen passen! Aus diesem Grunde kommen die CDs in speziellen DigiPacs auf den Markt.

DIE ZUSAMMENSTELLUNGEN. Die meisten anderen Firmen, die sich ausschließlich auf rechtsfreie Ware stürzen, bauen ihre Kopplungen nach den Publikationen von Joel Whitburn zusammen – und gehen damit den einfachen Weg. Wir haben für diesen Job Dave 'Daddy Cool' Booth verpflichtet, der eine der umfangreichsten R&B-Plattensammlungen Nordamerikas besitzt und als erfahrener Discjockey genau weiß, wie man ein ganzes (Musik-Programm sinnvoll aufbaut. Er hat seine unglaubliche Kollektion genau gesichtet, anschließend – und zwar Jahr für Jahr – die 'Billboard'-Magazine und -Listen durchkämmt und nicht nur die wohlbekannten Hits herausgesucht.

Wir haben die wirklich beste Musik zusammengestellt, darunter viele Songs, die bislang nicht auf CD erhältlich waren. Aber es gibt natürlich auch die populären Top-Titel. Und: Bei uns wird man pro CD höchstens zwei Songs vom selben Künstler finden. So können wir ultimative, durchdachte Zusammenstellungen anbieten – ganz in der Machart eines Guy Stevens, Paul Oliver, Mike Leadbitter und anderer, die während der 60er und 70er Jahre richtungsweisende Blues- und R&B-LPs gekoppelt haben.

DER KLANG. Wir verwenden ausschließlich die besten Quellen der Original-Firmen und bearbeiten sie sorgfältig, um ein optimales Klangergebnis zu erzielen.
Sicher, diese CD-Ausgaben kosten etwas mehr als das rechtsfreie Billigmaterial – aber sie sind es definitiv wert!
Wer also die Nase gestrichen voll hat von Wiederveröffentlichungen, die preiswert erscheinen mögen, es aber letztlich nicht sind, für den brechen bessere Zeiten an. 

Niemand muß mehr bis 2011 warten, um die komplette Story der goldenen R&B-Jahre vor sich zu haben!
