Rich-R-Tone – gegründet 1946 in Johnson City, Tennessee – war nicht nur das erste Label, das die Stanley Brothers veröffentlichte. Es war zugleich ein frühes Sprachrohr für Bluegrass, Gospel, Honky Tonk und authentische Hillbilly-Musik. Auch das Schwestersublabel Folk Star spiegelt die musikalische Vielfalt und kreative Energie der Zeit eindrucksvoll wider.
Bear Family hat für dieses Boxset sämtliche erhaltenen Aufnahmen aus den Jahren 1946 bis 1954 zusammengetragen, liebevoll restauriert und durch ein umfangreiches Begleitbuch ergänzt. Insgesamt 12 CDs mit über 300 Tracks – darunter zahlreiche Ersteinspielungen, rare Label-Pressungen und teils verschollen geglaubte Titel – bieten einen einzigartigen Querschnitt durch eine Ära, in der Musik noch unmittelbar, roh und aufrichtig war.
Das beiliegende, gebundene Buch (148 Seiten) ist weit mehr als eine Ergänzung: Es enthält ausführliche Künstlerporträts, historische Einordnungen, seltene Fotografien und vollständige Diskografien. Ein unverzichtbares Nachschlagewerk für alle, die sich mit amerikanischer Roots-Musik, Bluegrass und der Frühgeschichte unabhängiger Labels beschäftigen möchten.
