Cousin Louie

A rather unlikely cover of George Fleming's minor rockabilly classic I'm Gonna Tell from 1959, this loose and sometimes uncertain version came from deejay-promoter Little Richie Johnson, then working out of KARA in Albuquerque. Indeed, aurally Cousin Louie is actually Johnson himself. Johnson forged a brief but productive relationship with Daily during 1961, placing a number of singles with 'D,' including several by Earl Scott, who went on to record for Columbia, himself and songwriter Johnny Salisbury (aka Johnny Appleseed). These often very ragged sides ranged from hard-core honky-tonk to western swing and this odd stab at rock 'n' roll. Johnson remained very active in promotion and had several record labels during the 1960s through '80s (and perhaps beyond) and died on November 3, 1997 near Albuquerque in Belen, New Mexico.
