Das obskure Felsted-Label, 1954 in Großbritannien und drei Jahre später in den USA gegründet, war primär für seine Pop- und Crooner-Aufnahmen bekannt.
Aber Felsted hat eine beachtliche Zahl von großartigen Rockern veröffentlicht.
Als erstes Label bemüht sich Bear Family Records®, die Geschichte von Rockabilly und Rock 'n' Roll der 50er und frühen sechziger Jahren auf Felsted detailliert aufzuarbeiten, eine Mischung aus Rockabilly, Rock 'n' Roll, Doo-Wop Rockern und rockigen Instrumentals!
Unter anderem sind die extrem seltenen Singles von Vince Maloy, LaVern Stovall und von Frank and Jack and The Nightwinds enthalten.
Drei Titel sind erstmalig auf LP erhältlich!
Die CD kommt mit 21(!) Bonustracks, davon acht Stück erstmalig auf CD.
Bill Dahl hat wie immer jede Menge Hintergrundinformationen fürs Booklet zusammengetragen.

Felsted Records war kein gewöhnliches Rock'n'Roll-Label. Das Label war eine Tochtergesellschaft von London Records, ihrerseits ein Ableger des 1929 gegründeten britischen Labels Decca. Felsted wurde 1954 in Großbritannien und Ende 1957 in den USA auf den Markt gebracht. Das amerikanische Felsted konzentrierte sich darauf, ein jüngeres Pop-Publikum anzusprechen als die Muttergesellschaft und lizenzierte in erster Linie Master, anstatt selbst welche zu produzieren. Ein großer Teil des Outputs bestand aus aufregendem Rock'n'Roll, der sich größtenteils nicht so gut verkaufte, obwohl er einiges an Power hatte.

Diese faszinierende Sammlung enthält mehr als nur einen Teil der feurigen Rocker von Vince Maloy, Andy Anderson, Ritchie Hart, Charlie Gracie, Bobby Russell, Myron Lee and The Caddies, Bill Taylor, The Jiv-A-Tones, The Casualteens, The Spacemen und vielen anderen und wirft ein neues und willkommenes Licht auf ein altes Label, das von den auf Wiederveröffentlichungen spezialisierten Firmen viel zu lange übersehen wurde.

The sound is nice and raw – much more like some Memphis indie than you'd guess from Felsted!!

A totally wonderful package, and one that offers a deep dip into the surprisingly strong rock and roll side of the Felsted label! Felsted is best known as the home to pop hits, jazz artists, and easy listening records – but the company also managed to record some killer singles in the early years of rock and roll – most of which we'd never heard before this fantastic set! The package is as cool as the music itself – a perfect presentation of raw rockers that has 13 tracks on a 10" vinyl release, and a whopping 34 titles on the CD that's included in the package – along with a full color booklet of label scans and notes on the music! The sound is nice and raw – much more like some Memphis indie than you'd guess from Felsted – and the set includes work by The Five Fleets, DC Washington, David Orrell, The Admiral Tones, Charlie Gracie, The Roosters, LaVern STovall, Mickey Michaels, Vince Maloy, and many others.
